EMI FILTER (def.) : an electromagnetic interference filter suppresses noise from an appliance connected to the AC main voltage from propagation into the AC mains.

Typical Power conversion Structure consists of:

  1. AC voltage

  2. EMI filter

  3. Rectifier

  4. DC-DC Step down converter

What issues with regular power conversion does the IOTW EMI Filter solve?

Conventional EMI filters comprises of passive inductors and high voltage capacitors that are large in size, heavy, and high cost. In addition, the cost goes up more than linearly with increasing power rating. In addition, design of such EMI filters is very difficult and time consuming which transform into engineering cost and longer product development time.

IOTW’s EMI filter is active in nature with smaller size and weight, as well as cost goes up much less than conventional EMI filter with increasing power. It is also much easier to design in than conventional EMI filter and therefore saves also engineering cost and design lead-time. In most cases, the power loss is also less than the conventional EMI filter.

Thus, the EMI filter is immediately useful for:

  • Most electrical appliances, including household appliances, office equipment, and power hand tools.

  • Large power converters for servers and data centres

future roadmap:

  • Since it is active circuit in nature, can be extented to cover also the power conversion related circuits.

  • With the additional of wireless network access function, can extend appliance to IoT enabled devices.
